Who didn’t feel the shaking today?
Today’s earthquake was rather weak. The only thing making it blog-worthy is that I can’t remember the last time there was an earthquake. When the roller first started, I wasn’t even sure if it was an earthquake. My first thoughts were: “Is there a big truck rolling by? Wait, I’m too far inside the building… maybe it’s a really big man running down the hall. Or it’s a power outage. My monitors are shaking, but they’re not flickering! WTF is going on?”
Despite how bad our school system is supposed to be, if they did one thing right, it was to hold all the countless earthquake drills. The first thing I did after I realized it was an earthquake was to dive underneath my desk. It felt ridiculous to do so and I don’t think it would have offered much protection from the 100 lb bookshelf above my desk or the 100 ton roof above my head.
After the shaking stopped, we all had a good laugh. It’s amazing how fast news travels because two minutes later, my coworker said the news was already on www.cnn.com. Five minutes later, someone posted a video on youtube. And like the ten million other people in LA, I helped tie up the telephone network with a call to mommy and TL.
Earthquakes are fun when no one gets hurt.
