Wow. I just got dominated by my first GMAT practice test. I scored a lousy 40 on quant and 31 on verbal for a total score of just barely 600
I had a feeling that my results would be pretty poor and would light a fire under my ass to really kick start my studying. I certainly got that right, considering I got nothing else right on the test.
Recap of quant:
- Poor time management: didn’t have enough time to work the last six problems
- Need to review powers and roots
- Need to review geometry
- Made way too many careless errors
- Didn’t properly attack problems
Recap of verbal:
- Was able to narrow down most CR down to two answers. Usually chose the incorrect one of the two >:[
- Still need to review SC book
- Reading comprehension was what I expected, I had the same problem as CR.
I spent last week looking at the Official Guide to GMAT questions and the Quant questions seem to be a little more wordy than Kaplan’s. Looks like I’ll be studying out of the OG’s from now on. I might look into www.gmathacks.com for strategies and solutions to the OG.
I also need to spend a little time working on the essay section. I skipped the essay section since I wanted to focus on the quant and verbal sections. The essays seem to be doable as long as you figure out the template and can think of enough points/arguements to make.
Need to go rehab the brain now.
