Last week was a weak attempt at studying. As I suspected, the new post has been taking away more of my energy than the previous one. There is way too much to soak up at work, not only from a project domain standpoint, but from a programming standpoint as well. If I had the possibility of structuring my past projects, I would have chosen more development projects. There’s just way too much that I don’t remember and don’t know. But I digress.
In week 3, I managed to get started on sentence correction (SC) and critical reasoning (CR). The Kaplan book is a good place to get started with SC, but as recommended by others, the Manhattan GMAT SC book is better good at getting into the nitty gritty of proper english sentence construction. I started off with the Manhatan book, but switched back to the Kaplan book because the Manhatten book was drowning me with too much detail. I’ll probably go back to the Manhattan book after the first diagnostic test that is scheduled for this weekend.
For week 3, I did 50 problems out of the Kaplan book, as well as some of the practice questions from Manhattan. I noticed that I always get off too a bad start everytime I begin studying, but once I get into the rhythm, I get a lot more SC questions right. SC isn’t too bad once you start recognizing the grammer patterns that the GMAT likes to throw at you.
CR on the other hand kicked my butt. I studied out of the Kaplan book and took a crack at 50 problems, getting about 30 or so right. I find that I’m stuck in this mindset to not assume anything regarding the passages when instead I should have been reading between the lines and thinking logically about the question being asked. I’ll probably buy the Manhattan CR book as a supplement.
Week 4 will be centered around Reading Comprehension and essays. Good times.
