Today was my first day at the new office. Some remarks regarding the new place:
- The Carson facility has the feel of the larger company facilities that I have been to (Space Park, Melbourne, El Seg). It has its own cafeteria, company store, and a real security guard department. And even though there was a gym in Pedro, the Carson has a gym that has two full time trainers. Hell, even the cafeteria food is crappy just like the cafeteria food in Melbourne!
- We get Arrowhead water.
- To get anything hardware related things done, we have to open a ticket with the IT folks. It’s not as convenient as grabbing John S. or Frank who are just down the hall.
- The drive to work is about five minutes shorter. I’m sure going to miss driving by those refineries in Wilmington.
- The office looks old and drabby (not sure drabby is a word). There are random ugly paintings and billboards of different projects that we work on that hang on the wall. Everything is pastel colored and so boring that it brings down my productivity.
- One of the guys I interviewed apparently left the company after I accepted the offer. I’m also sitting in the cube of a coworker who use to work in Pedro too. He also recently left the company. I won’t read too deeply into all this, but hopefully this isn’t a sign.
- I’ve signed up for a physical assessment with the physical trainer for tomorrow. She’s going to be poking, prodding, and pinching me to see how much lard I need to lose and then laugh at me while I run on the treadmill.
- The project seems really cool. It actually seems like we make stuff that will actually be used out in the field! Amazing. Hopefully this isn’t like opening a shiny gift wrapped present to only find a box of turd.
- The best part of this job so far, internet is now available on my primary machine! Yes!!!!
Wooo, The Hills is on!
It’s all a sign that you should start Ko Corp sooner rather than later…
